Hi All,

This is my first year growing tobacco and it seems so far to be successful. I grew Florida sumatra and color cured it in the basement, the leaves turning a nice brown / reddish brown, now it has been boxed in card board for aging at this point about 3 to 4 months. My main question is that it doesn't really smell like tobacco when I check the leaves, but it does have a very pleasant sweet smell. I grew it for cigars but have been smoking it in a pipe ( a new Dr Grabo which I broke in with this tobacco ). It is smooth with no bite but not a great deal of tobacco taste. Does it need to age for more flavor, any help is appreciated .

von, IME aging will not bring more flavor, but it will indeed mellow harsh flavor.

Thanks RC, I guess my question is that it doesn't really smell like tobacco, it's got more of a sweet smell. I didn't ferment it, I just cured and boxed it and keeping it lightly moist in the boxes. It is mild to smoke though.

I would put it in a home made kiln for six or so weeks.
