As part of my continuing 5 year mission to seek out new smoking experiences...oops...wrong thread...

I'd like to have a go at making my own corn cob pipes. Unfortunately here in the yUK all the maize (what you'd call 'corn') in the shops is unsuitable. It is all modern stuff -it all has nice big yellow corns but a really tiny pith (the white centre stuff), so is no good for making pipes. As i now have somewhere i can grow things i thought about planting some corn myself. Not to eat, Heaven forfend, that shit has vitamins in it and I'm allergic to all vitamins and nutrients.

Can anyone tell me which variety of corn I need for pipe making? Which sort has a big centre? I'm guessing some 'heirloom' or 'heritage' one? I know Missouri Meerschaum have developed their own brand of Franken-corn and I'm guessing that isn't available for sale to the public. But what variety did your great Grandpappy carve his own pipes out of?

For an extra E-biscuit , link me to the right seeds, please.

I was offered some particular seed a few years ago... I shall see if it is still available.
Give me a while to make the dusty connection.
