Howdy MinnesotaKid,

Very Interesting video clip and photos and they talk about making tobacco dust. I'm probably going to make some next year, it's free and a natural insecticide. I could only make the amount I was going to use, so there's none laying around, when the grandkids are around.

One thing I found interesting was they were using a spare room to dry the tobacco and placed a plastic sheet on the floor. This would give me better control over the temp and humidity in the first few weeks of drying. This leads me to a couple of questions, that I will post in the appropriate place.

Thanx for sharing this site, I've bookmarked it and may order the video at some point down the road. Chuck.

I am going to order it because this guy lives in Wisconsin and I'm in Minnesota. I figure if i can pick up any tricks it is worth the money for the video. His results look great!

Howdy MNKid,

Yeah, I like the photo where he is reaching up and the tobacco is a couple of feet taller than him. I wished my tobacco looked that good, but due to the cool, and very wet spring, I have a plant that's about 18" tall and starting show a flower budding already. It's in a 2 gallon bucket, but none of the four other plants (in 2 gallon buckets) have started showing any flowers. I think next year, I'm going to transplant until June 10th or later. "Global Warming" has failed me yet again! :x

Let me know what you think of the video. Chuck.

Howdy MinnesotaKid,

Did you order the video? If so, what did you think? I just used the baccy insecticide spray recipe they have posted. I used a couple of tobacco leaves I purchased from Mr. Dan DiFrancisco. I will let y'all know how it works for me. My first crop is starting to look really good, but started to get a little chewed up. I have noticed that the mountain tobacco plant has very little insect damage, probably due to the high nicotine content.

Hope all is well -- Chuck

Howdy Wydeboi,

I think I saw a post from you about cutting down on transplanting too. My plan next year is to use 4"x4" deep cell trays after transplanting as sprouts and having them stay in the deep cells until they get planted outside. I also plan on cutting down on the number of plants I will start next year. At least until next spring when I get planting fever!

Hope all is well -- Chuck.

Hi Chuck, yep things are going good with the tobacco so far. I've started a new batch of seeds in 3'' peat cups, that way they can stay in the cups until they go in the pots. I'm using 3 gal. pots as I live in the city and who the heck knows what is in the soil in my yard.

Howdy CC,

I humblely doff my cap and raise my beer to you oh "Grower of a Thousand Plants!" How is everything out West? Any pics to share? Around here farmers who normally grow corn or soybeans are growing acres of tobacco, which seems a little perplexing. You'd think you'd see less acres planted in baccy. We have a small local cig maker Bailey between Keysville and Drakes Branch. I wonderful if people are switching to cheaper brands? Anyway, I reckon your plot looks a lot like these farmers.

Hope all is well -- Chuck.
