http://zimbaremabwe.webbuildpro.co.uk/s_4.asp Interesting page on the role of tobacco snuff in South African (Mashona) traditional religion. Bears comparison to the sacred pipe in American Indian traditions.

Religious would be the right word. It burns the devil out of your nose.

Interesting article. So if I understand all this correctly, this guy is claiming that Euorpean style stuff is killing so many Africans because it's dirty. (Although he provides no scientific evidence to back up his claim.) His company's snuff is clean because their employees are forbidden to have sex two days before making it and all throughout the process. Plus they pray a lot while they're making it.

So what happens if one of their customers gets sick or dies after using their snuff for 10 or 50 years? Can they blame the company and sue them? Well it appears they're covering their butts with this "warning label" type thing:

The nhekwe (cow horn snuff container) can go with you anywhere, however if you have sex, you should bath your body first before touching it again. If you do touch it after sex, you should cleanse yourself, and then empty out the nhekwe before cleansing it and refilling it from the dende.

That's a good one since it's impossible for anyone to prove that they always cleansed themselves every time they had sex before using their product. No proof, no settlement.

Hmmmm, I think this guy is onto something here. Just think how many lawsuits Big T in America could have avoided if they used this company's business model of selling tobacco for spiritual use and including instructions for use which must be followed or you die. And worse yet, it voids the warranty.

Big T are you listening here?
