I primarily smoke because it can be calming and relaxing, and lends to a nice meditative mood at times.

Smoking also allows for the opportunity of practicing moderation / temperance. I smoke for a period of time or periodically, and then force myself to give it up for a time when I start to feel that 'edginess'.

I am not particularly fond of the the edginess feeling, so it is something I avoid. I have smoked like this for about 12 years. I can honestly say I am not addicted to tobacco products.

I find this practice quite difficult to do with cigarettes, so I do not smoke them anymore.

Half of what you smoke in a cigarette is not even pure tobacco, but reconstituted tobacco mixed with paper and combination of chemicals. Makes it just that more addictive. One of the good reasons why home grown tobacco won't taste the same as commercial products.

I believe the fact that so much of a cigarette is not tobacco is probably the reason people tend to smoke too much. I went from 3 packs a day of Winston to under a pack a day with RYO all natural tobacco, without trying! My wife, who was smoking close to a pack a day of commercial cigs is now down to 3-4 cigs a day! That tells me a lot. I'm hoping that growing my own, I can produce a cleaner product with more kick and get down to 4-5 cigs a day that I really enjoy.

(edited to add) I love smoking! Especially a good cigar late at night with a potent potable.
