Well, 2014 was a bust. My little plants never grew true leaves. I think the window they were in was too cold. I watched them very closely and they stayed small for over a month. I finally bagged it and decided to just start fresh this season.

So far this season is starting strong. My little guys are already bigger than last year. What I have done different is starting them in a homemade grow chamber and putting them under fluorescents. I made two grow chambers out of storage totes. One has a diy grow mat made out of rope light bedded in cat litter. The light is plugged into a temp controller that keeps the mat at a steady 75-80 F.

The second chamber has a counter mount florescent tube mounted into it. I have this chamber set to 24 hours of light. I leave my plants in the germination chamber until they pop through the soil. At that point they move into the grow chamber. Once they out grow the tote, they move into a shelving unit that is converted into a growth chamber. Hopefully the new plants will get big enough to go outside by May. :)

I'll try and post pics soon!

Sounds great, joe!
Warm is a good thing for the little guys, and don't over-water!
AFAIK, flourescent bulbs may be mounted and adjusted so they remain about 2" from the leaf.
Them squiggly pigs tail cfl ones, too.

Well, I got busy getting all of my starts going and haven't had time to post pics. My crop this year is out of control! I'm hoping things warm up outside soon. I have been running my florescent 24/7 since my last post. By June when these guys can go outside they'll be huge! I've got so many starts I'm going to have to give some away. I haven't had to water them since I transplanted them about a month ago. That moisture control potting mix and the closed loop environment of the tote really helped that out. The plants don't seem to mind.
