This is my first time growing tobacco, and due to poor timing, I'm growing within my apartment. I got the seeds from a buddy of mine who claims they are probably 'Virgina Golds', however, I really have no idea how that effects anything.

Either way, I was hoping in this thread, I could get some constructive criticism of my plant, and how I've done so far. It'd also be greatly appreciated if you could give me pointers on how to reconcile any mistakes I have made, whether that be this go round or next plant.

The following are a handful of pictures that I just took of my plant:

Heres a bigger version of the last photo
As you can see in the last two images there's what I believe to be a 'birth defect' in one of my leaves, the last image was when it first became visible, and the second to last is what it looks like now. As far as I know I don't have any bugs or anything living on or near my plant.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

EDIT: Here are some more recent photos:

6, it looks great !
You will have a bit of fun growing it.
Not as much fun as a puppy, but not near as much mess. :-)
As much light as you can get it will help. Be cautious not to over-water.
:-)

Looks fine to me, it is common practice to grow more than one plant though :D

Mind you if you are growing in your apartment I guess you are somewhat restricted for space.

One of the leaves seems to be a a bit funny shaped looks like something may have taken a bit of a nibble out of it.

Sometimes when indoors they can get a bit leggy, tall and weak due to lack of light but yours looks fine
so I guess it is just a question of more of the same as it gets bigger, they are not difficult to grow at all.

Yeah, I figured that most people grow more than one plant at a time. I chose not to because I'm really only growing for myself right now.

Either way, do you guys have any tips on speeding up it's growth? I have it under a UV light for a pretty length period of time each day (>18h/d), I make sure to water it when ever the soil is no longer damp, and I use fertilizer (or whatever you wanna call it) semi regularly. Is there much more I can do, if anything?

IMO

You should probably stop the fertilizer.
Chances are you have already given it more than enough.

Have fun with your project!

A one pack a day smoker can make it with approximately 30 plants. But realistically, the first year we end up giving a lot away for numerous reasons so 60 works just fine. Plants in containers do all right but put it in a larger container now so it does not get root bound and grow at a much lower rate.

It's about 3 months old. However, for the first month and a half it wasn't getting enough sunlight and was growing really slowly. Then I got the light I'm using now, and it really just took off.

Hm... Alright. Is there any reason for that?

I don't smoke that often. I usually smoke like once or twice every other week. I just enjoy growing plants and I figured "Why the hell not?", ya know?

As for the container, this is the biggest container I have right now, and it's already taking up a pretty big chunk of desk space-- How much bigger should I be using?!

I know exactly what you mean. I think all of us really enjoy growing. My first year I couldn't wait to get home just to check how much they had grown and of course to check for horn worms...which I found a few times.

Wow, my plants are about the same size, about 5 weeks old!

They look healthy though!

Very essential is the lights you are using, ive learnt my 6400 k growing lights are working fine. My plants are 3,5 months old as well and you can see the difference in my grow log. I am a first time grower as well so maybe you should not take my advice too seriously since i havent properly cured or smoked any of my tobacco yet. But they are totally grown up by only using growing lights in a small room with tin foil on the walls. Seem to be growing ok :)

I started using fertilizer quite late, i had a rich soil from the beginning. Ive been adding 10 ML liquid nutrient in a litre of water, giving each plant 5 DL of the mix each week and if the soil seemed dry another day of the week i just poured some extra water . And i put in 4-6 nutrient sticks with minerals that break down slowly. This ive been doing maybe 1,5- 2 months month. Not exactly but something like that! When the plats are so small im afraid that too much nutrient is bad for the plant.

Eventually you will need to transplant to a four or five gallon pot so that it can reach six foot tall or more. It will also keep you from deleting all of the nutrients from the soil as quickly.
